There is no account, no login, no cookie and no database. Most visitors give us nothing at all, and this page is mostly a list of the few ways that changes.
Everything below describes what the shipping code does. Where a sentence has an exception, the exception is written down rather than left out.
The free scan: we receive nothing
Your LinkedIn PDF, or the text you paste, is read by your own browser. It is not uploaded, so there is no copy of your profile on our servers to keep, leak or sell. Your score, your headline and the roles we flag are worked out and drawn on the page by the same browser tab. Close the tab and all of it is gone.
The three things you can choose to send us
1. Emailing yourself the scan
Under your score is a field that mails you the result. If you use it we receive exactly three things: the address you typed, your score out of 100, and which of the eight checks passed or failed. Not your profile text — the on-screen version quotes your headline back at you because your browser has it, and the emailed version cannot, because we do not. Before we hand the address to our email provider we look up whether its domain publishes a mail server, so that a typo is caught rather than bounced.
We do not put the address in a list. There is no list. Our email provider keeps the message and its delivery record, and it refuses a second send to the same address within twenty-four hours, which is how the one-email-per-address promise is enforced rather than merely stated.
2. Buying the $29 rewrite
Clicking Get the rewrite sends you to Polar to pay. Polar is the merchant of record: they take the card, charge the tax and send the receipt. We never see your card number. Polar tells us your email address, the fact that the order was paid, and when.
When you come back, the sections your browser pulled out of your profile — headline, About, and each role’s title, company and description — are posted to our server for the first time. They are sent to Anthropic’s API, which writes the rewrite; the rewrite is shown to you and emailed to you. Your text is used to write your rewrite and for nothing else: not model training, not a mailing list, not resale. We do not write it to a database, because there is no database.
Buying means we have your email address, and here is all of what it is used for: the rewrite, the rewrite again each time you ask for another (three per order), and one message three days later asking whether it worked. That is the entire list, and there is no marketing email after it because there is no list to be on.
Being straight about that last one: the follow-up is booked with our email provider at the moment you buy, so it is already scheduled and we cannot call it back by ourselves. It carries a one-click unsubscribe header, a real person reads any reply, and it is the only message of its kind you will ever get from us.
3. Emailing us
If you write to mike@gearyworks.com, that email sits in a normal inbox like any other email.
What we collect whether you ask or not
Counts. Eight named events — a page view, a scan started, a scan scored, a scan rejected, a scan emailed, a checkout opened, a rewrite delivered, a rewrite failed. No cookie, no session recording, no autocapture, and a fresh random id for every browser tab, so two visits by one person are two strangers to us. The location lookup is switched off in the request and IP addresses are anonymised on the analytics project itself. A finished scan sends the band your score fell into — under 40, 40–59, 60–79, or 80 and up — never the score itself and never a word of your text. The page address is sent without its query string.
Faults. If the reader crashes on your file, or the paid rewrite fails, our error monitoring records that it happened. The report contains the software fault and nothing taken from your document — not the text, not your name, not the file name. We keep it because a reader that breaks silently is a reader nobody fixes.
Server logs. Our host records the ordinary things a web server records for a request that reaches it — time, path, status, IP address — and a firewall rule counts requests per IP so one person cannot make the site mail thousands of strangers. Static pages and the free scan mostly do not reach the server at all.
Everyone else who sees any of it
This is the whole list. There is no advertising network, no data broker and no other third party on this site.
- Vercel — hosts the site and runs the two server routes. Sees requests and their IP addresses.
- Polar — merchant of record for the $29 purchase. Holds your name, email and billing and tax details, and the order record.
- Anthropic — writes the rewrite. Sees the profile sections of paying customers only. Never sees your email address, your name as a customer, or anything from a free scan.
- Resend — sends the emails. Sees the recipient address and the message, which for a rewrite contains the rewritten text.
- Sentry — error monitoring. Sees software faults, not your document.
- PostHog — the counts above.
How long it lasts
We run no database, so on our own side the honest answer is that there is nothing with a retention period: the free scan leaves nothing behind, and the rewrite path holds your text only for the seconds it takes to write and send it. What outlives your visit lives in the six accounts above and lasts as long as each of those services keeps it — an order record at Polar for as long as the tax authorities require, a sent-message log at Resend, an error report at Sentry, an event count at PostHog, a request log at Vercel.
How to have your data deleted
Email mike@gearyworks.com from the address you used, or reply to any email we sent you, and say what you want removed. We will delete your customer record and email logs and tell you when it is done. Two honest limits: an order record that Polar has to keep for tax cannot be deleted, only the personal details around it minimised; and if you never gave us an address there is nothing for us to find, because the counts and the fault reports carry no way to identify you.
